Painting plein air is a practice of mindfulness, paying attention and being present. Painting outside in nature, year-round, is both a challenge and pleasure. Recently I have looked to other places – locales such as Quadra Island, the Fraser Canyon and the Ashcroft Valley for inspiration.
In studio, I have started to work on interior landscapes, more than just still life: the brush of a curtain or the random objects on a counter, a long shelf, a curtain blowing, or a hat on the wall….I often finish a painting in one session – “alla prima” – but larger works get more time.
